i have a heating cable in the ground and a hoophouse just about ready for the plant to go into....my question is:
can you put plants straight from growing inside (a home under growing lights) straight into a hoophouse? do they need any hardening off or can they go straight to the hoophouse?

dj,you might try setting them in the hoophouse two-three hrs./day (to toughen em up) a couple of days prior to putting em in the dirt

Agreed...grow lights are not as intense as sun light. The atmosphere will be radically different too. As Joe said, easy does it.

Take several days to accustom the young ones to not only sunlight but the cold and wind also, Put them out a few hours a day increasing. I start setting them out around 4PM perferably with a lil cloud cover the first day or three, giving more daylight each day, but you must protect them from the wind. The 50 MPH gusts are pretty wicked. They should also spend a few nights on the patio out of their coddled greenhouse environment at night. I take several days to accustom them to our sporadic spring temp swings, Colorado seems to be a bit cooler this year too, big storm coming in Thursday will keep this years kins inside a little longer. Good Luck to You!
