I would like to use some calcium nitrate as an early season source. I would prefer to control the rate with mixing and applying with water. I'm wondering if this would be harmful to the mycorhhizae and or the good bacteria in the soil? thoughts anyone?

There should be no harmful effect on the mycorrhize if applied at a reasonable rate. High rates of any nitrogen fertilizers can lower the Ph which could inhibit the fungi.
Calcium Nitrate is a great early nitrogen source and it can be applied and controlled very well diluted in water. I would be cautious of the rate. If your OM is in the 10% range, and or if you added manure last fall, I wouldn't add much

Calcium Nitrate does not lower your PH it will increase your PH. 50lbs of Calcium Nitrate equals roughly 500lbs of lime.
