Only try to remove them yourself if absolutely necessary.
If you pull them off too soon, the seed leaves can become stunted. I've done it myself and it usually does more damage than good when you try to mess with them.

If I have to after the seed is up for three or four days and it still hasn't come off, I use tweezers. Two sets.

Easy to do if you've done it before. The first time I tried I cracked the stem of an 845 Bobier seed, though! Put zero stress on the stem. I wouldn't mess with the tweezers, myself. Just fingers for me

if you plant the seed in the starter mix on its side rather than tip dowm the seed casing in just about all cases removes itself on the way up through the soil

Thanks PAP. Wish I had remembered that from your previous post when I planted two days ago. I will make a note for next year or next week depending on how it goes.

PAP, I went downstairs to check on my seeds and the 1300 Wallace was on it's side and had popped. How did you do that? It was straight up last night. I don't get it. Is that a sign?

i agree with andy cuz i have stunted with early removals in the past and i have pulled off one of the cots still stuck to the inside of the seed. the stubborn ones get a shot of warm water before i do the deed myself. put the setting of the bottle to jet stream and try to direct the water up into the shell and on the leaves inside. let sit a bit and then carefully separate and then lift. if you feel any resistance, stop. let the plant try to do it itself for another half day. then try again only if you think the plant can't do it by itself. experience tells you when you have to do the deed like what brat said when it hasn't come off for 3 our more days.
