In Georgia the local tradition is that winter is not over until after the Blackberry bushes bloom.

Today the Blackberries bloomed and the tradition says no more freezing weather.

It would be interesting to hear from other growers on their traditions.

Thanks in advance for other traditions:

Usually in these parts, its don't count anything out til after Memorial Day Weekend. It always been tradition to plant the garden that weekend. I plan to have pumpkins growing long before that this season, and hoop houses for protection, just in case. Can't wait to get started.

may longweekend is usually the safe bet for no more frost and putting tomatoes and such in but lettuce and the hardier ones can go in earlier. My lettuce, carrots, spinach, radishs, and beets are in the ground. Next week the pumpkins will go in the ground with hoop houses for protection
