The growers in this area are "sweatin' bullets" as growing time approaches this year. We are looking at having the coolest April on record....an average high of 52 degrees.
Our soil is cold and wet from the cloudy days and frequent rain showers. Is anyone else out there fighting the elements like us?

Call me when you are in town or e-mail me so we can show you the patch once again.

The forecast this weekend is for snow to drop to 500 feet elevation!

Ca just ran 2 days close to 90* then 66 and back to 70- 80. We have had .12" of rain since late Feb. Really dry, record.

Still have a 6-10" crust of snow on the south 2/3rds of the patch here. Nervous? Yes, but averages are averages and optimism abounds ;-)

It's been very cool and wet in my area also. I don't know if it will dry out by planting day. I hope things turn around soon so I can till. It's going up to 70 deg today with sun so that will help.

It's been wet enough here that I may have to end up pushing my start date back since I cant work the patch soil. Just when things begin to look dry enough to work we get more rain. That is the forcast again for this week, very nice warm and breezy during the week then rain and cooler over the weekend!!!

Very cold here in Idaho as well. We have had only two nice days this month, and I was out of town for both of them.

Back in mid-winter when we were still dreaming... I had circled this Saturday (19-Apr) as the day I would start seeds. Not so sure about that now...

We are a little wet, but for some reason have been much warmer than most in the entire midwest this year. soil temps are good, air temps are phenomenal.

One thing I have learned over the years

You only have to have 1 sq ft of patch prepped for each plant when you put them in the soil This can buy you a few days

a 2x2 area can buy you a 10 days or more

Only had about 1/2 inch precip in the last seven weeks. Highs of 22C but night time lows hitting -15 on some days. Just can't kick the frost out of the patch

2nd snowiest winter ever here in Eastern Washington, we caught a break last week end with a week of dry weather and were able to plow down the cover crop and cross cut cultivate the patch! Then Monday more snow/heavy rain.... Hope to be able to get the last of the secrete amenities on this weekend.

Temps here are 10 degrees below normal and on the wet side. With temps the way they are I'm thinking of delaying my start date but can't wait too long, sweating some of those bullets for sure.

Think its going to be a late growing season for us all. We had a record amount of snow this year with several days of getting 10 ft of snow in 24 hour periouds. My garden is finally snow free but the mountain behind my house still has a 176 inch base and still gets snow while we're getting rain... anyone up for skiing while growing pumpkins come my way.

Temps and weather in Central Cal. all over the place. For instance, last week we had 3 days of 80s and 90s. Then went to 50s day 30s night and 40MPH NW winds. Now we are back to 70s and 80s and light off shore winds. Then starting Sunday-Monday we are back to 40 mph NW winds and 50s day and 30s night, it's crazy I tell ya!

Hey Glen...maybe if my soil was a sandy loam, it would dry faster! ;>) Not all of us have soil like Don Young who can rototill within six hours after a one inch rain shower!

April has been cool/cold up until very recently. It was 65F and windy yesterday. Today in the 50s. No snow on the gardens, and soil frost seems to be gone. The soil drains well here, so it's looking O.K. so far.

Last weekend we were in the high 80's then in the 60's the last few days. They are calling for snow here in the next few days. I hope it holds off until I get the plastic on the hoop houses tomorrow.
