There are many ways to germinate a pumpkin seed, I imagine it is pretty warm down there, so right now would be fine to start it. The GVGO has a pretty good tutorial on germinating pumpkin seeds, check out this link: http://gvgo.ca/articles/rivington_germ_tut01.html
This should get you going. Also if you go back to the Article page on the GVGO website they have some pretty Q&A with growers on how they grew there records. Also the How to page on this site has some really good info.

Good luck

next year for starters you should practice you germination skills during the winter months.
purchase some books on giant pumpkin growing. soil maintenance and join a couple clubs in your area.
with out this type of effort on your part you will not be successfull

Lots of good suggestions here. I also recommend checking out the last frost date for your specific location, and even now you should have a plan to protect your young plants for the first few weeks from cold with a hoop house or something. I actually have a plan to protect my plants all year long, since I've had many different things go wrong. You still have plenty of time if you want to practice germination with less important seeds before trying with your best seeds. If you do it properly, you should have germination within about 3 days. Temp should be between 80 and 85, starting mixture should only be moistened one time at the beginning until you squeeze the mixture and can only maybe get a few drops from it if you are planting in soil. I use a heating mat and peat pots to germinate mine and even though I've grown a few years, I still need to build my confidence each year with practice. As others suggested, keep studying and find whatever you find comfortable for you, and the more you pay attention to detail, the better you'll do. Murphy's Law is in effect from the moment you wet that seed right up until harvest time but the growers here can help you overcome just about everything.

Best regards and best of luck to ya!

Seems it's becoming more and more common here for new growers to get dumped on with rude and uncalled for replies just for asking a legitimate pumpkin growing question...sad.

Thanks mark... it wasn't something bad or nothing... just a simple little question to spark a discusson. It got so bad it got removed... Makes me kinda wonder if this a great hobbie or High School.

I have read all the post's on this thread and the person from Statesville NC never mentioned weed or other illegal stuff.

If the accuser have any information either present your
information or SHUT UP.

I also noticed that the accuser does not tell his location.

Just my opinion:

Hey Bob, The referance to weed was made by Pa Farmer was in response to another post that you probably did not see because it was removed by Ken because of the unappropriate nature of it which dealt with illicit narcotics.

But it was just to spark a discussion dude... What is the freaking problem with that... I mean I like to know who I am competeing against. Makes it a friendly competion. Which I want to compete... So thats why i keep saying and the is the last freaking time I am going to say it.... DROP IT. People can have difference in opionions and still have a friendship.
