I plant flat, maybe a little dip in it, to hold water. Makes it easier to get water around the plant early on. I don't use drip irrigation.

I don't really care. I just plant flat.

I hear you've more chance of the line snapping off when "laying down from a mound so give it a gentle incline

I have planted in mounds but it is mostly to do with the cooler spring we get. I am going to experament with flat planting this year though.

I believe the main idea behind a mound is to keep a seed or seedling from becoming flooded. Mine are usually in hoops or other type of protection so I dont see a mound as being needed. I have done both but recently just flat. I agree a mound can make laying a plant down more difficult.

If it rain's huge amounts in your region, might want to plant in mounds. Keeps plants high enough to weather long stints of moisture. If indeed you live in a region that is mostly dry plant flat, plants will need all the water they can find.

I build a small mound. I think it warms up faster and deeper. I'll get mound ready 1-2 weeks before planting time and put a clotche over it. By the time I plan to plant the soil is alive and ready to go!

I used to plant on mounds, but I had bad problems with vine splits when the mains lay down. Now I will plant on flats, but I put in drainage ditches around the patches for better drainage.

We just had a heavy wet snow here in Colorado so I filled my hole with snow and a sprinkling of gro rich organic fertilizer hoping for a slow release of added nutrients into the walls and bottom of the hole. Don't know if it will help but what the hell. We are dry here so I guess I'll go flat.
