Hi, I was wondering if any one knows where to get some silica gel so I can store my seeds. I mean besides out of shoe boxes. I would need another wife to get enough of it.
Just kidding haha

Your local craft store should carry it. Silica gel is used for drying flowers.

Im not so sure this is a good idea....I did it for a while, but my seeds seemed to do worse than better...Maybe I did something wrong. I had them in a big glass gallon toad jar with a bag of the silca gel the size of an envelope. Stored in a cool cabinet. Now I was storing vegetable seeds, I noticed my peas and peppers would not weather one over for one year...plants were always noticably wimpyier........I never tried it on Pumpkin seeds....I have used the freezer though...

Milford

milford, CT,

I stopped using them because the goal during storage is not to DRY out the seeds but to keep a constant humidity and temp. I store the seeds in the freezer and put them in ziploc baggies. They will be safe from the defrost cyle of the freezer and will remain at a constant humidity
So far I have had excellent germination up to 4 years old.
Hope this helps?

Moderation...70% humidity seems to come to mind but the key is to keep the humidity stable.

Thanks for the tips. I have mine in the freezer right now and I think I will just keep them there.
