We've now done more experiments, and Here is what Iv'e found.
1) I tried 750 PPM of GA3, germinating was fine, but cott leaves looked weak, shrivilled and a lighter green than normal.
Used this on 6 different seed lines and was quite consistent, half the seeds had the seed coat removed, and half were just filed, Really no difference in time or quality of seedling.
2)250 ppm was OK but at least 24 hrs longer on germination, once germinated, seedlings looked fine.
I don't think this is the way to go for old tough seeds though.
3) this is my recommendations, after all my playing.
file seeds, soak in 5% peroxide for 4 hrs. remove from peroxide sollution, and soak for 24 hrs. this is in a 500 ppm sollution of GA3, and a pinch of humic acid. I started off with warm water, and reheated to warm every 8 hrs, Once soaking was completed I added a teaspoon of Mycorrhizal Fungii and mixed well. I then soaked the paper towel in the sollution and put each seed into baggies, Sprouting was within 24 and 48 hrs, and it seemed that anything over 5 years of age was always on the slower side.
Really didn't make a difference on removing seed coats as per this experiment, But I had 1 seed that was not showinf any signs of germinating after 48 hrs, so i removed the seed coat and it germinated in another 24 hrs. So I believe I will leave seed coats on, and if I don't have a seed germinate after 48 hrs. I will remove it a go from there.
Also here is kind of a bonus, Don't throw out the GA3 mix, use it to water the seedling when you put them in the dirt, really seems to boost root development right acrosss the board.
So if you have any questions, post here, that way everyone benifits
