Our 2007 DVD has a demonstration of covering an entire giant pumpkin plant in the Fall with Reemay Floating Row Cover, while maintaining a 2' airspace between the plant and the cover. We have had many growers seeking a source for this material. We now offer Remmay Floating Row Cover in a 12 foot width x 50 foot length. We also have Slitted Row Cover. This is a clear plastic cover with slits that are designed to stay closed at night, but will vent hot air in the daytime. You can find details on both of these exciting new tools for growing giant pumpkins at www.hollandsgiants.com They are listed at the bottom of the "Growing Supplies" page. Thank you

How does Reemay hold up in the wind? Is it easy to tear?

It will billow up in the wind, so I stretched some twine over the Reemay blanket as well to keep it in place as it covered a 750 sq. ft. plant. It was surprisingly strong for such a light fabric. I kind of bunched it together and twisted to form an anchor point to tie off to wooden posts I had driven into the ground. I had it up for over a month in the Fall with minimal wind damage. I had clear plastic 4' high around the perimeter of the plant attached to the wooden posts with lath. The interior micro climate was about 15 - 20 degrees F. warmer during the day than our cool Fall weather.

How strong of wind did it survive in? We get September winds up to 60 mph and don't want the Remay blowing away or damaging the plants. Alan

We don't get winds nearly that strong in Sept. Maybe half that at the most. I had the Reemay suspended 2 feet above the plants on cord that was stretched several directions between posts on the perimeter of the plant at the 4 ft. level which was how high the plastic around the plant was. Having cord material stretched over the Reemay as well kept it from billowing up in the wind. I had the Reemay tied off at each post which were 8' apart all around the plant. I did a step by step demo in my 07 DVD, but like I said we don't get winds anything like you mentioned here in Sept.
