does anyone think that a 2000lb pumpkin can be grown this season or will the jutras record be broken

It went from 1502 to 1689, up 187 pounds from the year before, 187 + 1689 = 1876, I bet someone breaks 1900.

If Larry Checkon would have a summer like 2007, when he grew the 1469, The 2000 pound barrier would have gone down in 2005.
So Yes I believe it will, the genetics are there, as long as mother nature is nice, it will happen, If not I owe Ron Wallace, as we bet on this at Niagara.

I am saying it now, there will be 1 pumpkin grown between 1690-1699, but 1700 wont be reached this year.

I don't think the world record will be broken. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1600 lb barrier isn't crossed this season. It has to stop somewhere, maybe last season was the pinnacle.

it all depends on a few things

weather-seed selection-grower skill

personally if all three things hold up there is a chance that we will see a 1700 pounderthis year.

as far as 1800 to 2,000 ? you need a way to increase the
pumpkins growth cycle daily averages and also extend the fruits growth period.dont know if either is possible.

it would not surprize me to see the record hold for at least a year either.
1,670 pounds is a lotta pumpkin for anyone to grow

I'm going to jump out there and say that the 1700 mark is going to be broken this year. (1729 new record) I'm willing to bet it will be a repeat record breaker. Some one needs to repeat record break a few times and give the giant pumpkin godfather's record reapeats a good run. hey, i'm just throwing it out there. Some one has to be "that guy"

I'd be surprized if 1689 gets beat this year.Having said that, ive been surprized 9 consecutive years when the world record was broken.I'm predicting a 1726 and 1694.Two over 1689

Yep, 1700 will most likely be broken. Part of my brain says, "No way, Joe set the bar too high," but another part looks at it objectively and says that if three people broke 1600, the next year there should be about ten who do it with one or two people "taking it to the next level." Eight to ten 1600 pounders is my guess, with two over 1700, but nothing over 1800 for a couple of years. Who knows? By the way, is Jutras growing a 1041 McKie? If so, 1800 might be a possibility!

I'm thinking the bar was set quite high by Joe, and maybe nice growing weather also contributed to many over 1500. I think the 1689 could stand as the record for another year or more. With all the great crosses out there, and the sharing of info., I may be wrong.

one other ingredient i neglected to mention in my above post

besides weather ,seed selection and growers skill you will also need a pumpkin that weighs at least 10% over chart

And if anyone noticed at the GPC Awards in Niagara when they awarded the jackets, look how many people were in the 1400 pound group, quite a few, then the 1500 pound group numbers got smaller, then the 1600 pound group was very lean with Don Young, Dan and Jason McKie and of course Joe Jutras. Room for more, yes, absolutley. Logically though its going to be tough to beat with those kind of numbering odds. It will be fun to dream and hopefully with a little luck and weather someone will.

Hey Pap, how about if the grower is 10% over the chart, does that count?

Remember last year when everyone thought it would be hard to beat the 1502? Well this year 9 people did and 3 were over 1600 pounds. I am saying some one will get over 1700 this year.
