I sent some seeds to a first year grower in Iowa and she has asked: "When is the best time to start the seeds. We live in northwest Iowa, 4 miles from the Minn border and 50 from South Dakota. I realize every year is different but just give me an average."
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

About May 1st but even later (after last frost)would be fine for a rookie. Sounds like she lives pretty close to Kevin Marsh in SD. There are several guys (and gals) here in Iowa who would love to give her advice as needed. Tell her she is more than welcome to contact me [email protected] if she has any questions. If she would prefere to talk to a woman grower I would suggest Julie Young from DesMoines Iowa. If Julie dont chime in I can get her Julies email.

May 1st or even later. I plant the second week of May outside. I live just a little further south and east of her. The way winter has been going, we'll probably still have snow!
