I watched the compost tea, milk, & fungicide slideshow at team-pumpkin.org. The Daconil fungicide seems to be very effective. other then not being organic, is there a down side to using the Daconil?
I see it says to apply it every 7-10 days, when is it safe to start applying the Daconil to the plant? Do give the seedling a few weeks to get established? Do you apply it directly to the vine and leafs or the surrounding area?
Thanks alot for the advice!!

Pumpkin Picker, alot of growers do it different but Ill tell you when I use fungicides/pesticides, and its works for me. The only fungicides I apply before my seedling hits the dirt is Clearys 3336( for root rot, stump rot ect). The only pesticide I use before my seedling hits the dirt is Merit(grubs, vine borers, cut worms) Other then that I dont start using fungicides or pesticides again, like Daconil until about 2 weeks before I think things will start showing there ugly head. I try to stay away from spraying anything on the leaves as long as I possibly think I can . Some growers will use pesticides and fungicides (like Daconil for pm,and other diseases) right after they put there seedling in the ground , and it also works well for them, so telling you a exact time to use a product will vary from grower to grower.

Brooks - not to confuse things: both insecticides and fungicides are considered pesticides. You are using the term pesticide for insecticide (which it is, but not in the way you're using it). Don't want to confuse anyone. Ray

I agree with brooks, Only use - Just before you think theres going to be a problem, Here in so cal it seems to be around 3rd -4th week of July --So i do a spray about 2nd week of July ! & i do not think its always needed that often as 7-10 days ! It just depends on your conditions ! My first spray is with Immunox plus its cheep & seems to work ,maybe another with same immunox plus about 18 days after , then switch to different kind ,its good to rotate , seems to be more effective , O ya my concern is for powdery mildew !

O ya ,I mix a bit weeker than directions say ,about 75% ,Most of this stuff is hard on leaves ,More so in hot weather ,I try to soak all surfaces of leaves & stems (but not flowers or vines)!

Thanks for looking at the information posted on Team-Pumpkin.org
To answer your question regarding my chemical fungicide control treatments...
-I did my first spray of Daconil about 43 days after the plants were set out in the field. Then the recommended 7-10 schedule was followed.
-My spray pattern was directed mainly at the leaves. However I am sure some did come in contact with the vines, and I also tried to limit soil exposure.
I would add that if you are thinking about a combination Daconil and Compost Tea spray schedule I would suggest spacing these sprays as much as possible. Daconil is a good contact fungicide but it is not selective. It will kill both the bad and the good microbes.

Interestingly the Pro (4# Flowable & 85%WP) versions of Daconil/Bravo are no longer labeled for use on residential properties. Dumb politicians.

Is there anything comparable to Cleary's 3336 that can be obtained at a local store (ex. lowes, home depot, walmart, .....) It is my understanding that the cleary's 3336 is absorbed by the seeding and this helps prevent the plant from getting root rot disease. is this somewhat correct?
Thanks!
