the season is fast aproaching. we have done our homework. attended seminars, aquired our seeds , asked a million questions, purchased our supplies, did our r and d, repaired our green houses, sent out our spring soil test, did some test germinating and hopefully ? finalized the list of warriors and super crosses we are putting our faith in this year.
this is the best of times. its what we serious growers wait for all winter long.the birds singing in our ears and the peep toads singing at night tell us the time is upon us.
summer can be the worst of times as we will loose a couple of our plants and /or pumpkins along the way---it happens to the best of um. for those of you who are stout of heart, dont quit and stay the course to the end? will be rewarded . if not this year then next. my best to all. stay the course pap

We have had some rain here, but the trees are blooming and my pool has frogs in it. I am happy to say spring is here.

The peepers are frogs, not toads as stated above. Add 6 weeks to the first time they are heard and this will be your last frost. You'll be amazed how well this works!

not for nuttin? but when someone once suggested that some geographical locations were at a disadvantage in our hobby i used to pass over it. the replies in this post rekindled that thought. some folks are at a disadvantage, be it getting atarted or an early fall. so the moral of the story is ???????? you can always blame the weather LOL id still like to know how wild bill rodonis of new hampshire grew a pumpkin in the mid 1500 pound range? an amazing accomplishment for sure. in little rhody he may very well have put on another 100 or so on his 1450. i let ya know in october ( i hope its the best not worst of times ) lol pap

Hey Klir
I heard the peepers Easter night. Of course I'm from the south down here, about 25 miles south of you. It was a little too cold for them and I was surprised! But they have a job to do and need to get a start at it.

Still a foot of snow here, had afew inches these past few days, and more on the way. Down to -2 F tonight. A ways to go yet. The good side - at least another month of ice fishing.

Hey...even in the Pacific Northwest, we've had snow squalls today and nightime times in the upper 20's. This is very unusual for this time of year. I'd like to ring the necks of those geeks who say we're in the midst of global warming!

Stan the worlds weather is in a very screwed up state -- I DONT think most people know how really bad things are and how bad the environment really is--we just had 6in of snow last night--but its been 15 -20 degs below normal---craig

Like Al, I have a lot of snow and ice in on the main patch, between two and three feet. I have spent the last few days chopping ice and shoveling snow. All of this so that I can get a spring soil test out. Right now it is snowing. Wet heavy snow. In Lewiston we are supposed to get 3-6". No peepers here! KathyT

Looking out my window right now it is hard to believe I should have all the leg work done to get plants in the ground for the first week of May. Heck, we are still shoveling off our roofs so they don't collapse. And more on the way.
