I was wondering, For those who are thinking of growing their 1068, Could u send me a cutting? I would like to try to clone this and keep it alive all winter.

Then the following/09 season I would try to get 2 or 3 plants from this cutting.

This may be a way to get more growes a chance to grow this and other seeds.

Good Idea, taking orders. There was a guy on here named Brooks, and I think 1068 was mentioned with it, not sure.

So anyone else that can spare a part of a vine this summer/fall
to get clones so that some of us can grow the 1068 next yr.

Here is a link to Marc Sawtelle's article found in the "How to" section here on BigPumpkins website. I am lucky enough to live just 60 miles away from Marc and have visted his home and seen his cloned plants in his basement. He is very knowlegeable about this subject and one hell of a grower as well. http://www.bigpumpkins.com/ViewArticle.asp?id=31&gid=2

I am new to this clone thing and like the idea of it. I am curious what is the biggest pumpkin ever grown out of a cloned plant?

Thanks for the support. I will be reposting this in July, so I can get a good clone before it gets cold.

Any advice from those who have done this would be greatfull.

If I am successfull next yr. I may have a 1068 in 2009 yaaaaaaaaa

Rather than taking a cutting that is not rooted, it would be best to allow a secondary or tet to root and then remove the portion of the plant from where it rooted on.

I've found a company in Florida who will propogate through tissue culture but would be costly to do on a small scale. They can make literally thousands of 1068 clones from just a few inches of plant material.

I'd love to try keeping a clone of the 1068 over winter.

Yes we have a clone/cutting form the 1450 Wallace. Just get
3 wall paper trays. fill with soil put 4 holes in the bottom
so water can drain. Pick a strong vine trench in the wall
paper tray when it grows across cut the vine take inside
under lights when the cutting grows across all three trays
cut the back section off and move forward. This will give
the front two sections time to root.
