I will have a 3 point hitch to attach it. How deep do I want it to dig?

how big a tractor?
My guess is unless your a farmer, you only want a 1 bottom chisel. something that will go 18-24 inches should do the trick

I bought mine here: valu-bilt.com They have everything. Good prices.
Mine sits on a Ford 8N tractor. Pulls it like a hot knife through butter. At long last I've finally removed most of the sprinkler pipes from UNDER the garden, so I can let this puppy dig deep and really open up the soil.

be careful not to go to deep or you will bring up any undesirables substances like clay, buried treasure, large rocks, your neighbors dog, etc. 18 inches of good growing surface is sufficiant for the plants growth if it were me id go 18" for the first time. go north south creating straight lines as you plow, then go east west creating a checkboard pattern over the patch. then a quick till and put the tiller away until fall. this should be sufficient. pap

I got mine at the Tractor supply Co. I added some weight and got down fourteen inches. Like Dick said, If you get much deeper, your going to bring up probably a lot of hard clay. I did go north and south, then east and west. Plus I also went north-east and south-west. if we got a lot of rain, my patch was a mud hole. Now it drains very well. But I also put drainage in as well.

Pap and Tom are so right as usual. I used my subsoiler recently before I tilled today and 18-24 is the perfect depth. Some farmers we sell too at work want 3 to even four feet but for competion pumpkins or hobby farming 18-24 is perfect.

Guys Thanks for all the information. Tom B. I will be using it with a 29 or 33 horse power tractor.
