Pumpkin Picker (Orange Only)

Western PA

Hello all, this is my second year attempting to grow the big one, I did not use any type of insect control last year and all of my plants except for one was dead by Aug. The one remaining plant had a 104lb AG on it. This year i plan i spending a whole lot more time on this and I know now it is critical to control the Cucumber beetles, squash bugs, & SVBs..

Does anybody know of a simple easy to read chart of exactly what to use, where to buy it and when and how often to apply it?

Thanks a lot for all of your help.

Hi Pumpkin Picker, what town in PA are you from?

Are you looking to get something from a place like Lowes or WalMart? Or do you want something a little stronger?

In PA you're also going to need to get some fungicides to control powdery mildew and other diseases.

In the Pitt area. lowes or walmarts works for me. I have been reading up on the Bayer advanced tree and shrub insect control with 1.47% Imidacloprid, it comes in a 32oz. concentrate bottle.

I have read a ton of posts and can't seem to find something definite on the application rate of this product. how far ahead of planting should i apply it to my patch? then how long should I wait till I reapply? Will the seadlings be able to handle this product? what mixture should i use? should I apply only apply it to the base around the plant or all over the whole plant?

Will the Bayer t&S control cucumber beetles and squash bugs?

Thanks aton for the help!

Bayer tree and shrub is used at 4 ounces I believe for 500 square feet. Id say a gallon should cover 500 square feet. I think thats the rate Tremor told me. Also search Merit and this has been discussed on application rates of Bayer and Merit.

First year using it here but I believe Bayer which contains the same active ingriedient as Merit should help control Cucke beetles and squash bugs,aphids,whiteflies..etc

I asked a similar question last year... see http://bigpumpkins.com/MsgBoard/ViewThread.asp?b=6&p=207963 There is some good application rates in the thread. Good Luck. Remember application rates are determined by percent of "active ingredient" in whichever type of retail brand you end up getting. Type Imidacloprid in the search box might get you what your after.
