I think the court has four solid conservatives who will uphold what's been interpreted for all these years (Scalia, Thomas, Alito, and Roberts). The rest is a question mark. That's why I think the "right" (right, and right) will be upheld.
But if it's not... wow... wow, wow WOW! Sorry folks but McCain will win if that happens and the court will undergo some changes.

It is in the Bill of Rights. Good luck taking all the guns away.

Looks like we won't see an "opinion" until June.
I'm with you that it's in the Bill of Rights. The 'problem' in there is the wording about a well regulated militia. Those who want to change it are arguing that guns ought to be for the militia (or certain people) only.
The whole amendment is one sentence. The third phrase seems to ensure that arms are a right given to the people. But in our world today, you can't be sure what people will read into it.

Being heard in this case is the constitutionality of D.C.'s handgun ban. D.C. allows the ownership of rifles and shotguns as long as they are equipped with a trigger lock.
Most troubling is how the court COULD interpret the word "militia". One definition(the one I believe was intended) is the armed citizenry. The second is an organized military. There is no doubt in my mind what "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" means.
Over thirty states have filed "friend of the court" briefs in support of the Second Amendment. Those arguing in favor of upholding the D.C. handgun ban fear that overturning it will open the door to legalized ownership of anything from bows and arrows to rocket launchers and that any existing gun laws will be unconstitutional. The Constitution does not define "arms".
I think what we will see is no change in the law. D.C. will be allowed to keep its handgun ban and local government will be allowed to enact laws as they see fit. Gun laws, believe it or not, are the will of the people and are tailored to meet local needs. If the people of D.C. do not want the handgun ban, they are free to elect officials who will repeal it.

I'm with Keith - anyone breaks into our house they're going to be sorry...I learned to shoot when I was eight and the only way the government is going to take my guns is to pry them from my cold dead fingers...
I agree with gpdude on the interpretation of the word militia. I also know that if they try to pass more gun control in this country there will be an uproar that should be enough to squash it.
Whose bright idea was it in the first place to reduce crime by disarming citizens while criminals roam free armed to the teeth? The Hamr is right...teach your kids to hunt and shoot. Pass on that heritage and don't let it die. The government does choose to chip away at our rights instead of take them away outright. They pass bills (especially ones that are bad for the environment) on certain days when no one is paying attention. They piggyback them onto more popular bills and slip 'em on through.
It's a shame we even have to defend the 2nd amendment in this country.

Suzanne Hupp addresses Congress like no person ever has.
In her adress she says
“The Second Amendment is not about duck hunting. And I know I'm not going to make very many friend saying this. But it's about all rights. All of our rights to be able to protect ourselves from all of you guys up there.”
God Bless her.
