I backed myself into a corner, I have seed sprouted and realized I have like 12 weeks to coddle them before they get planted! Uh yeah, dumcluck me didn't realize that the roots don't like being messed with and I need a 'plant it without depot' solution unless... someone else has another idea? Can I maybe line say a 14" pot with a tarp over an inch of sand to cushion and then fill and let finish growing. Or build a cardboard pot that can be unlatched? (feeling really sheepish right now)

Update and still feeling slightly sheepish but still a somewhat panic...down a notch.

I planted the 'store bought' Dill Atlantic Giant. I have a garden club meeting later this day and I might be able to bend some arms and those lovely farm ladies might be persuaded to take some at 3 weeks. And I can make room for a couple of halloween pumpkin makers in what's left of my yard. My 'pedigreed' seed, didn't get put in dirt yet. Phew. So some egg on face, eating a big slice of humble crow pie, heaving a BIT of relief and praying to the tendrilled pumpkin powers I can find homes for a bunch of these... still, is there a way to make a homemade pot that is pumpkin-root friendly and will dissolve all by itself once planted?

And yes, I'm ordering cowpots for the ones still in envelopes!

I myself got excited and was thinking it was time to plant, but I caught myself and put my seeds away..I too am excited for spring. I use coffe cans with the bottom cut out and the plastic lid with holes in it for the bottom. Thats about all I can say, but with the price of the seeds, just buy another packet or perhaps someone here has some no name seeds to share..good luck

Um yeah, well I do have the Garden Club (this is not GP growers, this is ladies that are almost my mom's age to past my mom's age that tend to grow things like roses, then I joined....)and I am going to try to get them to adopt some of them at the end of the month... we have a chance of the lil'fellers making it. I will even manufacture some grokaps that can be staked down against our winds for them... Thank you Croley Bend, I will try that can with bottom cut out to get some more growtime in pot for them. And Paul and Homer1, thank you you are very kind! I am sending you some email; because. It would be nice to hand out seed for the WeighIn for pumpkins too; and. I wasted my budget on seed from the 1018 Langevin (which thank the pumpkin dieties were NOT what I planted the other day!) and one other lot of seed... which I wrote on my calendar in big letters I can't plant until May! Thank you again!

I think you should just start new seeds next month. You can just ask people on this website and they will give u new seeds. I dont think it would be worth the effort to get a humungus pot . Also the plant would probally get leggy from being inside for a month,

I agree, get rid of them and plant some more when the time comes.

Nic2Nic, I did better than that, I hustled some new homes for them with a friend's daughters and granddaughters today at my garden club meeting. They will be delivered and I will personally make little coldframes for them in early April. Justin, I will be planting another crop. :) A few kind souls are sharing some seed, bless'em, and I still have my pedigreed seed. I LEARNED MY LESSON too! <blush> It's hard to pull up such big lovely sprouties... so next best thing is having found them a home with people that just want 'pumpkins' and not truely monumental statuesque axle busters. Heh.
