Cloramine is a water treatment additive that most city or town treatment plants use to keep the water stable. My take is that it consists of 2/3 clorine& 1/3 Ammonia.most treatment plants add about 1ppm.Getting rid of the clorine is not a problem. My question is will the remaining ammonia kill of good soil bactiera, were talking.003 ppm in some cases it my be a bit higher!
Any and all opinions welcome.John

Ammonia this low shouldn't be bad. Most nitrogen breaks down through some sort of ammonia stage....but I'd wait to see what the real soil gurus think.

I have been using Chloramine added city water for the past 3 years and try to counteract it with a charcoal filter attached to my water spicket. I have not seen any adverse affects to date and my soil seems to be very happy.

John, what brand of charcoal filter do you use, and where can it be purchased.
On another note, how much snow do you have in VT? Here in Maine we have around 4 ft. still. take care Kathy

Kathy,
I am not sure of the brand name but it is quite a simple one and I believe I purchased it from Charlies green house supply. I need to order a new one soon. I usually change it every year. I think it cost 40-50 dollars and attatches right on to your water spicket.

We got mostly rain and ice during the last storm. We have power but I have relatives that were without it for almost 2 days. I bet we still have a foot of snow pack though. Going to need a jack hammer to get my spring soil sample.

Thanks John. With regards to the ice and snow, I am thinking about using my husbands' pick ax. Kathy
