I don't want to burst any bubble here but I will give this report as printed in Volume 3, Number 4 of the World Pumpkin Confederation Newsletter Oct,Nov,Dec 1985: New Zealand, Brain Chamberlin - transcribed from the WPC Conference Call on Monday October 14, 1985. "Hello, and very nice to be speaking to you all. Its 4 o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, here in New Zealand and of course opposite from the Northern Hemisphere - its springtime here so while your enjoying your harvest up there we are just getting under way with planting in New Zealand. I am involved in two organizations Federated Farmers (of New Zealand) which is the farmers lobby group down here in New Zealand; I am also a rural broadcaster on the radio station called "Radio Pacific" in South Auckland and through this station we have organized to take part in the 1986 Competition (WPC). Many listeners have planted seeds which were sent down to us by Ray (Waterman - for the WPC). We will be having our weigh-off for the 1986 Competition at the "Easter Show" which will be held in Auckland in Easter 1986. It's a very big show, which town and country people get together at. Some half million people visit each year. It takes place over 5-6 days at Easter time and we are really looking forward to growing some very big pumpkins and being part of the 1986 Competition." Brian visited Collins NY in 1985 and we got this ball rolling from that meeting. Ray Waterman P.S. Howard Dill and Hugh Wiberg were on this conference call. I believe I still have a tape of the call - somewhere!

ray
i dont need to tell you that during its hay-day the world pumpkin confederation truely was the top dog giant of the hobby.
in fact, had a few things turned out differently then without a doubt the wpc would still be the number one giant pumpkin organization in the world.
unfortunately we cant change the past and we cant know what the future will hold either.
all we can do is work together, build the hobby we all love, and respect one another for past, present and future contributions.
