A local feed store has alfalfa pellets. I read that pellets are fine unless they contain salts. The ingredients on the bag said (I'm not quoting verbatum),"stabilized alfalfa pellets with hydrolyzed animal and vegetable fat, BHT and RHA? added. Does this sound like anything I need to worry about? I know bht is an antioxidant. If it looks like it will be a problem, I'll just order some alfalfa meal as in the past. Thanks

BHT is a type of preservative (Butylated hydroxytoluene) used to supress free radicals. I've no idea what it might do in soil but I doubt it would have much impact.

I put an entire 80 lb sack of the horse alfalfa pellets in last season, along with gypsum and composted manure. Didn't seem to have an advers affect at all...grew a 1300+ pounder.

I'm not worried about pellets in general, just certain formulations that might contain excess salts.
