I was wondering how much the male plants performance has an effect on the seed the following year. Such as the 1385 Jutras was pollinated with the 998.6 Plant that grew the world record does this make it a better seed than a pumpkin pollinated with a male coming from a plant that only produced a 700 pounder or even less? I always wonder if this is real important. The 1068 Wallace was an 845 X 898 and I think the 898 only produced a 500 for them that year. I just dont know how important this really is. What do you think?

well say you have 2 pumpkin of the same cross and they weighed about the same.
one of the pumpkins pollinator grew a pumpkin to 500 and the other grew one to 1200.
if given the choice i would rather plant the one with the bigger producing male pollinator.

matt,I like the male pollinator to be a real screamer. For example I like the 1385.5 jutras seed more than I do the 1689 jutras. Before any were grown I liked the 998.6 pukos better than the 1231 pukos.I would have thought the 500 wallace seed would have been better than the 1068-shows how smart I'm not

Ah but I think you have something there CoJoe....what about the 992.5 Glasier? And the potential of the 1385 Jutras as another..... If we think the opposite, then how many over 1500 lbders had poor male side pollinators? Another way to look at it.....I think the male side pollinators are a leading indicator, thing is we dont know till the pumpkins been weighed...
