Hey all,
I have weeds about 30 ft away from my 2 week old plants. Further, they are on the other side of a brick wall. If I were to use Roundup or something similar and not go crazy, would I be OK? The pumpkins are under their protective greenhouses and will be for a few more weeks.
I will not do this until someone gives me a real good answer. I remember using 2,4-D one year and a month later, I planted pumpkins and they were still affected by my spraying it 50 ft away the prior month.

Roundup only kills what it touches and has no soil residual at all. If your plants are covered, there is no problem what so ever. Some growers will even spray roundup right up next to the plants in season and are jusr very careful not to get any on the plants John

hot weather areas enhance the affect on plants much more than northern areas, including the affects of weed killer. Expereinced it myself too. Why take the chance after all the hard work? Pull them by hand, weed wack them, or till them to be safe. my 2 cents ben. Jimmy

I've been using for years in commercial pumpkin production both as a pre-plant of seeds and post emergence between rows. DO NOT Spray if there is any breeze blowing toward anything green that you don't to kill. You can use a rag or sponge to apply but wear chemical resistant gloves. 2-4 D is quite volatile. I've had vapors kill nearby plants. Its not an issue with Roundup.

Roundup is no problem unless you're in a hurry on a windy day like I was last year when I torched a bunch of tips. No harm came to the fruit & most of the affected leaves recovered. Those that didn't I pinched off.

Thought I heard that Round-up no longer holds the pattent rights on the mixture. I've been using "Kills All"(??not sure of the name)works great, and lots cheaper. Look for the active ingredient. I think some are 17% and others are 30-34% More active ingredient, more weed carnage. YEAH!! kevin
