I offered a bunch of my seeds from a pumpkin i grew last year to a home/land owners association i belong to near Galena Illinois. I figured a had about 100 seeds i wont use so what the heck. Now, it really looks like it went over very well. There is talk about having their own "great pumpkin" contest. It will be interesting to see how/if this thing get going. There is alot of space to grow out there and apparently some very good gardeners as well. Between giving seeds to my sons 1st grade class and this, i may be out of seeds from last years pumpkins. Hopefully some one grows a big one (relatively) and gets hooked.

I know wut u mean in trying to get other people involved. We hand out tons of seeds each year and every year we get people coming back saying it was too much work to get the pumpkins going. What else can we do?

I definately will keep this list up to date if it gets going. There is a monthly newspaper that we get and they are going to post it in the paper as well. If anyone close by is interested, it is the Lake Carroll association. It is about 30 minutes from Galena which means its close to Frantz' state. Mike, They freaked when they saw a pic of my 185 lber. Imagine if they saw one of yours or Dons!

Pkngirl. Were these folks looking for an easier way to grow these pkns or were they looking for something else to grow? The reason I ask I was thinking of giving about 750 elementary school kids 2-3 seed each (if I can locate that many) to see if we can get a them intrested in a "Great Pumpkin" contest at my neighbors maze. I'm going into my first attempt at growing an AG so I asking out of COMPLETE ignorance. Any input or guidance from anyone is appreciated.

Brotherdave, If you are asking me (and not Pkngirl). The reason i offered the seeds was because i had a bunch of seeds from last years pumpkin that i knew i wasnt going to grow. ( i dont have alot of room) I figured i might as well try to get someone to grow them and get others interested as well. It was an unsolicited offer and i just figured they didnt grow these things because i have not seen them around.
