Dear Fellow Giant Pumpkin Growers' Clubs Around the World,
I hope this email finds you in the midst of a bountiful harvest season! As President of the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC), I'm reaching out with tremendous excitement about an upcoming event that could transform our beloved hobby: the nationwide premiere of the family comedy film Grow on October 17th.

For those who may not yet be familiar, Grow is a heartwarming story set in the fictional town of Mugford, UK – a community utterly obsessed with its annual giant pumpkin contest. The film follows a no-nonsense farmer, a spirited young girl with a magical touch for plants, and a cast of quirky characters as they navigate rivalries, sabotage, and unlikely family bonds, all centered around growing massive pumpkins. It's a fun, uplifting tale that celebrates the joy, dedication, and community spirit we all know so well in the world of competitive giant pumpkin growing.

This premiere isn't just entertainment – it's a powerful outreach opportunity for us all! Movies have a proven track record of sparking widespread interest and demand for the subjects they portray, often inspiring new generations to dive in. Consider the 1996 live-action remake of 101 Dalmatians, which led to a dramatic surge in Dalmatian puppy adoptions; one Miami rescue group alone received 130 Dalmatians by September of the following year, a volume that would typically take them two and a half years to handle. Similarly, after Finding Nemo hit theaters in 2003, sales of clownfish rose by 40%, drawing families into the world of aquariums and marine life. Other examples abound, from the spike in pet turtle ownership following Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the increased interest in owls after the Harry Potter series. These films didn't just entertain; they created lasting cultural waves, introducing hobbies and passions to kids and families who might never have discovered them otherwise.

Imagine the impact Grow could have on our community! Families leaving theaters will be buzzing with curiosity about giant pumpkins – how to grow them, where to learn more, and how to get involved. This is our chance to channel that enthusiasm into real engagement, welcoming newcomers and fostering a new wave of young growers. By positioning ourselves as the go-to experts, we can grow the passion for giant pumpkins far beyond our current circles, ensuring our fun, rewarding hobby thrives for years to come.

To lead by example, I'll be attending an opening weekend screening with my class of 5th graders. We'll be handing out informational flyers about giant pumpkin growing, free seeds to get them started, and even showcasing a real giant pumpkin in the back of my truck right outside the theater. It's a simple, hands-on way to connect with excited families and spark those "aha" moments.

I encourage each of your clubs to consider similar outreach efforts. Why not bring a massive pumpkin to a local theater lobby or parking lot during premiere weekend? Set up a display with growing tips, seed packets, and club membership info. Partner with theaters for photo ops or mini-contests – the possibilities are endless! Together, we can turn this movie into a collective win for the GPC and giant pumpkin enthusiasts everywhere.

Let's make the most of this incredible opportunity to promote our shared love for these magnificent gourds. If you have ideas or success stories from similar events, please reply – I'd love to hear them and share across our network.
Happy growing!

Best regards,
Cindy Tobeck
