A lot of this is arbitrary its based on the value of the dollar or the weaknesses of other currencies. But still, it could be a problem. The main problem with running agricultural trade deficits is we have one less way to keep the country solvent. As I understand it, something besides government spending has to be running a surplus. I dont know what part of the U.S. economy is running a trade surplus, but its no longer agriculture.
