            | baitman | Central Illinois | Does it hurt the plant to have drip tape over the top of unburied vines.
I want to slide in tape into a patch with no irrigation.

The vines would get wet, but buried would be wetter so am guessing it would be ok as long has the leaves stay dry.

            | kurty | Cedar Lake, IN. | Mine are over the top of the main vine. But do not let the water dip on the vine. | 8/19/2013 3:46:00 PM |

            | MNFisher | Central Minnesota | I did it one year, never again. Vine rotted where the dripper was near the vine. Seems to be a bigger issue with the main, since it is bigger usually. I always go under the main. | 8/19/2013 4:16:18 PM |

            | baitman | Central Illinois | So if I get the drip tape under the main, I can go over the secondary vines | 8/19/2013 4:40:29 PM |

            | MNFisher | Central Minnesota | I prefer not to go over any vines. But, losing a secondary is not usually the end of the world. Losing your main, usually is. | 8/20/2013 9:05:58 AM |

            | tallcorn | Linden, Mi., | I must be missing something here, why are the drip lines already laid down, way before the plant is even in the ground ? | 8/20/2013 9:50:15 AM |

            | Chris S. | Wi | I run mine over the vines. I think results may vary here depending on watering and climate.
A vine sitting on top of t-tape isn't going to be much if any different than a vine sitting under t-tape IMO. It's a wet spot either way.

This is my second year using drip and I do not believe I will experience a single rot issue this year. Last year I lost about 2 vines to rot on our hottest year in history.

            | baitman | Central Illinois | I was able to slid it under most of them, and ran it to parallel to the man. I dont think we have had a inch of rain in the last 10 weeks or so. | 8/22/2013 12:48:27 PM |

            | VTWilbur | Springfield, VT | I have run the pipe over and under the vines, when it is over the vines it will cause rot, under the vines it doesn't. | 8/22/2013 5:13:29 PM |

            | Bubba Presley | Muddy Waters | I run mine under.I lay them out just ahead of the plant as it grows. | 8/22/2013 9:35:27 PM |

            | baitman | Central Illinois | Thanks for the info guys, I may need to clear up some things. This is my 1217 Zappa 11' plant, very early on the stump split nearly into, I sort of gave up on it and let it run wild.
Now this is my only plant, it got a pumpkin set on a secondary about a month ago, my only other plant looked much better, but the farmers must have sprayed to close to me and damaged half the plant. I pulled the drip tape out of this plant and used it on the Zappa.

I didnt have enough tape for both plants, I have kept the tape away from the pumpkin, and the main.
