Not intended to help anyone but myself... I only remember stuff long term by writing it down.
Disastrous tomato start was probably caused by nuisance birds attracted by straw, wheat and bone meal. That's my final conclusion. The tent has kept the birds out. No damage since they've been coversd...
This was a major setback. I dont want to make the same mistake again. Part of the problem was I thought it was the squirrels, which would be deterred by smells like mint or garlic or pepper. The birds were undeterred so I continued to lose plants even beyond the initial losses.
I'm considering this solved... Starlings to be precise.
3 weeks lost. Moving forward now, or at least, no longer going in reverse. Lucky LaRue is one of the less munched plants.
