So last winter I set out to try and find the 1495 Stelts and the 1725 Harp since they had never been crossed in the past, despite arguably being Top 10 seeds of the last decade or more. I don't really understand what makes inbreeding work with some seeds, and why others have been great by crossing distant seed lines, but I wanted to try and cross these two because there wasn't as much "inbreeding" in the lines as we see today.
Over the last few years the top seeds are very closely related. This cross isn't. I didn't get my hands on the 1495 Stelts, but I did get the 1625 Gantner (1495x1495) and I'm glad I did. Fun plant to grow. Thanks Eddy for the seeds in order to make the cross work. Appreciate it.
Here's the family tree of the 1725 Harp and the 1495 Stelts. The 1068 Wallace 2003 and the 1420 LaRue 2004 are the two main relatives.
