Upon further inspection I found the inside of the stem had a bunch of fat maggots in it. There was no obvious entry so I am thinking that some insect injected the stem with eggs and these maggots will turn into something else. Four days before my plants spent a week or so in a little green house. The door open on the hot days and there were bugs flying around.
