I start my seeds in a 6" x 6" pot, cut through the middle, then taped back together. The pumpkin plants do not like their roots disturbed when transplanted. This is the best way I have found that leaves them intact. When I plant, I take the tape off and carefully separate the pot in the large hole that I dug. This year I will put the plants in the garden two weeks after the seed was started.
