My (414 Trombley) Giant Bushel Gourds are shown at 9 days old, and got a couple true leaves. They really want to grow, so I think its time to transplant them outside into their 10ft long green house for a month, until they get too big for that. Fingers crossed.... And I'm hoping that everything will grow, according to plan.

I started growing my Giant Pumpkins 10 days late, this year. Got a little catching up to do. This is my 1025 Connolly plant. Looks healthy. But usually for my plants, the Main Vine has touched down and is running by now. Time for Peddle to the Metal growth assistance.

Nasty Heat!! Was supposed to reach a high of 80F today. Already 87 and climbing. Tomorrow we are expecting record 95F heat...so my guess is it will hit 101F tomorrow. THis is super bad for the youg plants if they are exposed to full sun. My 30% shade block coverings are earning their keep.

All 4 of our 2 week old plants have small root systems at this age. As a result they are struggling to nourish the plants and avoid severe wilt in the 90F heat at 11am this morning. With record 100F heats forcast for later today, these 30% shade covers are worth their weight in gold.

I planted my Giants 10 days late this year, so they are behind the major players in the Atlantic Giant game, but with a lot of heaters running 24/7, in the Greenhouses the Giant Pumpkin plants are starting to grow. Plants look healthy. Here is one of them. All are about the same size.

Our Giant Bushel Gourds are right on track for this time of the year, and their main vines are starting to establish themselves. They are not down and running yet but that should happen soon. I currently got two BG plants growing . Need to cull down to the chosen one plant today.

It was 39F this morning and it will be 41F tomorrow morning. Keeping the Giant Pumpkins and the Giant Bushel Gourd plants in green houses (sort of) for a couple more days. As you can see the Pumpkin plants have 12 ft mains (in the 11 ft long Green houses), so I raised the shelter on stilts allowing the main vines and secondary vines to keep growing without damaging themselves.

It was 39F this morning and it will be 41F tomorrow morning. I'm keeping the Giant Bushel Gourd plants in the "mini" 8 ft long green house for a couple more weeks with 24/7 heaters working overtime all night.
The 414 Trombley Bushel Gourd plant is growing about 6 inches per day and is still safely inside the Greenhouses.

I made the big switch! Took down all the greenhouses because the warm weather looks like its here to stay (for 6 months). Hoping that lots of full sun will encourage the plants to grow. Time to set up the Drip irrigation systems. I'm copying Nick Mccaslins elevated walkway idea to minimize soil compaction for better root migration.
