Happy 2026 to all.
We just had a top ten snowfall for Boston.
The Red Russian Garlic is under the pile on the left accumulating chill hours.

I started some early season determinate tomatoes today. This is an experiment to see how early in the season we can harvest tomatoes. I will grow one plant of each in containers that will hopefully benefit from the microclimate against the west side of the house. They will be brought inside on cold nights.
Update: Unfortunately we lost all six seedlings to damping off disease in early March during a work trip out of town.

I started two DeMarco 367 seeds on May 10th. I will not be able to get down to the garden on weekdays as often as previous years, so we will see what happens. I also started a lot of tomatoes and peppers at different times this spring. The back up plan is a veggie garden if the pumpkins go down. More containers at home this season too.

Transplanted one in the NW corner today from a five inch peat pot. No visible transplant shock. We like bamboo skewer stakes for small seedlings. It's going to be a low key enjoyable growing season regardless of what happens.

Most of the veggie garden is planted. List coming soon.
We look forward to a lot of fresh produce this year with some of our favorite varieties, and new to us varieties.

So glad a did a winter garden. And it's not even a garden, but a small strip of front yard next to a large tree. 10 of 13 germinated and it looks like we will have five solid cloves.
Growing nice harvests in a small urban environment onsite is a goal of this season. I really liked being able to control hot pepper row last year on our front steps; that is going to be expanded this season.

The park and our plants got a bit roughed up with yesterday's storm, but no major damage. It's only about 3.5 miles off Boston Harbor as the crow flies. We were downtown yesterday on State Street and it was the strongest wind in quite some time.
